The Journey Begins….

Young, vibrant, and physically fit...Patrice is living life! Married to a devoted, God-fearing man, who not only loves the Lord but loves his wife just as Christ loved the church. Keeping Christ interwoven at the center of our marriage, we are reminded that, “Though one may be overpowered, two can defend themselves, but a cord of three strands is not quickly broken.” With a very fulfilling and rewarding profession, teaching is my passion. I absolutely love and adore my fourth grade darlings. Seeing the sparkle in their eyes when they are ecstatic about doing a fun project or their expression of excitement when they have done well on a test. But the truth is, nothing warms my heart more than when they tell me that I’m the BEST teacher they’ve ever had! Let’s just put it out there that going on a memorable and unforgettable vacation makes life worthwhile. Experiencing the food, the culture, the scenery, the people....now that’s living! This was the year we were going to Spain and Portugal. On a past summer vacation, we enjoyed 21 glorious days with our daughter and son traveling throughout Italy. As my vacation planning was on the way, my hubby suggested that we skip a trip this year and focus on the renovations we had already started on our home. Reluctantly, I had to agree with him. With the kitchen completely gutted and confined to living in the family room as a result of the whole house being retiled, junk foods and take outs became my specialty. During this time of renovation unrest, the various symptoms I began to experience all seemed like just the regular ailments that resulted from poor nutrition and diet. After all, Cheetos, Crunch and Munch, and Goobers were all my cravings of choice after a long day’s work. Symptoms of gassiness, constipation, and gas pains that I started experiencing, I figured would have gone away once my unhealthy eating choices changed. Well, it was not until I witnessed my stomach bloating up and that unbearable feeling of abdominal fullness that my husband suggested I go get it checked out because something didn’t seem right. The sight of my stomach was enough proof that this was MORE than just gas pain! I figured I would confess to the doctor that I haven’t been eating healthy as of late, hence the reasons for my discomforts. Instead, “You have Stage 3 Ovarian Cancer” became my new reality. I was bombarded with treatment plans, appointment dates, endless procedures, and the opportunity to participate in a clinical trial. I decided after hearing my diagnosis that I would stand firm on the Word of God and not on the word of man and their statistics for my recovery. No fear! No crying! No self-pity! No questions asked, “Why me Lord?” Instead, I lifted my hands to Heaven and said, “Lord, I surrender this sickness to You because in my weakness You are strong and this battle is Yours to fight.” With God fighting my battle, I knew I was already victorious. I was ready to put on the full armor of God in order to stand firm with the belt of truth. I must be geared with the breastplate of righteousness, having my feet planted and fitted with the readiness of the gospel of peace. I would pick up my shield of faith, take up my helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit; the Word of God. Come with me on my faith-based journey to cancer recovery. I hope you will find courage to face your own “giants” and be encouraged by the strength I have found in relying solely on the Healer and not the healing.

  4. In 3rd grade you taught Me how to read, write and how to feel normal. Now , a 23 year old man about to graduate college. You showed me how to stand firm on the word of God and what it looks like to surrender everything to God. And to face your circumstances so boldly because of God is so moving to .

    2. Derrick, you were such a sweet and wonderful kid, and I’m soooo proud of the man you have become!!! Being your teacher was truly a blessing. I am so pleased to know that you have Christ in your heart and you realize the importance of surrendering EVERYTHING to our Savior. As long as you trust that your life is in God’s hands, then you can let go and allow God to take control. This is the BEST news about your soon-to-be graduation from college. I’m so very pleased to know that I had the privilege of being a part of your education and life. Continue on the path of success and always put God first. Allow His Word to be the lamp unto your feet and the light unto your path. Thank you so much for keeping me in your prayers. I love you!
P.S. Please give my love to your mom, step-dad, and Summer-Lily..Loved your family 🙂

  8. My Dear Sweet Sister, Pat! You are so loved. Life takes us in unexplained, unexpected places. It’s like a see saw, when we tip low, we have the opportunity to renew our minds, heart, our body and soul. When our feet comes off the ground, that’s when we feel excited, fearless and empowered. Sister, your feet are off the ground. Our Father in heaven did not give us a spirit of fear but of redemption. When we cry out to God and surrender to Him, this is when He does His best work. He has to know how much we need Him, because we are His Children. Trust and obey, there is no other way. You once told me about having faith the size of a mustard seed, my geeky self would more say faith the size of a microbe…which is merely beyond the size of a mustard seed. God is so good, my life has been a testimony of His love, I am certain as much as I’ve had to trust in Him these past 10 years of my life now more than ever, He will reveal and validate once more how mysteriously He works. I love you Sister, these are words from a woman that could write a series on God’s Grace, Love and Mercy. God heals and I do believe in miracles. May God’s goodness and mercy follow you and you’re continuesly buffered by His Guardian Angels, the ones He’s placed in my life. I love you so much! Your Little Sister, Chan👭

  10. Patrice, your message is as powerful as you are! When I received this unusual forwarded message from Michelle on my Timeline, I almost ignored it as I’m not one to read blogs. I started to read and stopped after the first paragraph maybe because I was in disbelief or confused and replied to Michelle to clarify if she was the one who really sent this and hoping it was not real. Now that I’ve managed to pick my jaw up off the floor, I wanted to call you yesterday but heard you were having another chemo session. I am so proud of your courage and amazing strength which you have always shown in the past 12+ years I’ve known you. Your faith in God and belief that He is the One in total control of this situation will hopefully encourage you to never give up the fight! After sharing your blog with Chelsea, she reminded me that she loved your classes and she’s so glad you still have “Mrs. Rolon” as your friend and there for support. Do you remember her being the only one in the class to get a 6 on the FCAT Writing that year? She trusts that the Lord will see you through this hurdle. Always remember how much you are loved! Please continue to post updates on your blog as I believe your messages will touch many hearts as much as it has touched mine. #miraclesdohappen #prayingforhealing
